Baked Bhetki Recipe

There are only a few fishes that can be grilled or baked. Bhetki or Barramundi is one such fish. This fish has a tender yet firm flesh with a mild flavour.Splashed with aromatic herbs and lots of spices, baked Bhetki is a treat to every taste bud. You too can give it a try. Here’s the recipe:

Ingredients

Bhetki fish- 2 kg (scaled and gutted)

For the marinade:

Fresh Coriander leaves- 2 cups
Mint Leaves- 1 cup
Chopped Green Chillies- 3
Crushed Cloves-3
Chopped Ginger- 2 tbsp
Roasted Black Mustard Seeds- 2 tsp
Cumin Powder-2 tsp
Sugar (just a pinch)
Salt (as per taste)
Unsweetened Yoghurt- 2 cups
Lemon Juice- 2 tsp
Mustard Oil- 2 tbsp (you can use sunflower oil, canola oil or vegetable oil)

For the garnish:

Chopped fresh coriander leaves

Sliced yellow/ red bell pepper- 1

Method

1.Wash the fish and place it in an ovenproof dish covered with aluminium foil.

2.Make slits on both sides of the fish.

3.To make the marinade, mix chopped coriander leaves, green chillies, black mustard seeds, mint leaves, cumin powder, sugar, salt, ginger and garlic and make a smooth paste. Add mustard oil into that paste and mix well.

4.Take a separate bowl and mix yoghurt, lemon juice and cumin powder and add it to the marinade.

5.Cover the fish with the marinade and set aside for 2 hours.

6.Preheat the oven to 200 degree celcius. Now put the fish in the ovenproof dish and cover well with foil. Bake for at least 40 minutes.

7.After 40 minutes, remove the foil and grill the fish until brown.

8.Transfer it to a plate and garnish with chopped coriander leaves and sliced bell peppers.

Enjoy the dish with Jeera rice or Lemon rice.
