Tasty Pomfret Recipes

Pomfret is a seawater fish with flat bodies and forked angular tails. You will generally find three types of pomfret in the market- grey, black, and silver pomfret. Out of the three, silver pomfret is available in abundance. You can have this fish either fried or steamed.

Over here, we have shared some exquisite pomfret recipes for you:

1. Masala Fried Pomfret

Ingredients:

For preparing the fish:

1 pomfret
2 tablespoon of semolina or suji
3 tablespoon oil

For the masala:

3 garlic cloves
2 tablespoon ginger
1 tablespoon oil
1/2 tablespoon turmeric powder
1 tablespoon red chilli powder
Juice of 1 lemon

Method:

1.Prepare the masala by blending the garlic, ginger, turmeric, oil, red chilli powder and lemon juice.
2.Now, make slits in the pomfret and apply the masala and marinate it for around 15 minutes.
3.Coat both the sides of the fish in semolina and shallow fry till it turns golden brown. Serve hot.

2. Steamed Pomfret with Green Chutney

Ingredients:

1 Pomfret fish
1 bowl grated coconut
1 bowl chopped green coriander
5 green chillies
10-15 chopped garlic cloves
1 tablespoon chopped ginger
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon turmeric powder
2 tablespoon kashmiri red chilly powder
1 cup vegetable oil
Salt

Method:

1.Apply turmeric, red chilly powder, and salt in the fish and keep it aside.
2.Grind green chillies, coconut,and coriander. Add lime juice and mix it thoroughly. Stuff this paste into the belly of the fish.
3.Smear a banana leaf in oil and wrap the fish in it. You can also use aluminum foil.
4.Boil water in a pan. Put the fish in a strainer and the put the strainer on the pan. Cover it and let is steam for 5-6 minutes.
5.Serve hot topped with a bit of coconut oil.

3. Pomfret Moilee

Ingredients:

1 Pomfret fish
2 tsp coconut oil
1/2 tablespoon mustard seeds
10-12 curry leaves
1 tablespoon sliced garlic
1 tablespoon chopped ginger
4 green chillies
2 thinly sliced onions
1/4 tablespoon turmeric powder
1/2 cup coconut milk (diluted)
1/2 cup thick coconut milk
1 chopped tomato
salt

Method:

1.Clean the fish and make small slits in both the sides.
2. Now heat oil in pan and add mustard seeds, curry leaves, garlic, chopped ginger, green chillies, onions, turmeric powder and diluted coconut milk.
3. Saute it until the onions turns translucent.
4. Add the fish and salt.
5.Cover the pan and let it cook for 5 minutes.
6.Add thick coconut milk and the tomatoes. Stir for 2 minutes and remove from heat.
7.Serve hot with rice.

4. Pomfret Curry

Ingredients:

4 Pomfret Fish
Finely chopped Tomato
1/2 tablespoon Cumin Seeds
1 finelychopped Onion
1 tablespoon Chopped Garlic
1/2 tablespoon Chopped Ginger
1/2 tablespoon Turmeric Powder
1/4 tablespoon Chilly Powder
1/2 tablespoon Cumin Powder
4 chopped Green Chillies
Salt to taste
5 tablespoon Oil

Method:

1. Clean the fish and marinate with salt and turmeric powder.
2. Now heat oil in a frying pan and fry the fish
3. In a separate pan, add cumin seeds, chopped onion,ginger,garlic and green chillies. Fry for 2 minutes.
4. Add the chopped tomatoes and cook for 1 minute. Afterwards, add a cup of water to it. Simmer it till the oil separates.
5. Now add the fish and cook till the gravy thickens. Garnish it with chopped coriander leaves.

Your pomfret curry is ready. Serve hot with rice.
